Benjamin J. Aloia is the President and Shareholder of Aloia Law. He concentrates his practice on complex business and real estate matters, and municipal law. Mr. Aloia specializes in business lawsuits and transactions in various industries involving members and shareholders of multi-million-dollar companies, and large-scale contracts. He also has extensive experience in commercial real estate transactions and litigation on behalf of corporations, financial institutions, developers and municipalities. He has been annually selected by his peers and Michigan Super Lawyers® as a Top 100 attorney in Michigan since 2020 and has also been recognized by DBusiness Magazine as Top Lawyer in Commercial Law, Business Litigation and Real Estate.
Mr. Aloia has been appointed as a receiver by local judges and has been hired as an attorney for receivers in lender and shareholder lawsuits. He is also often hired as local counsel by out of state attorneys for national clients in local business litigation disputes. Mr. Aloia has been certified as a general civil mediator with Michigan ICLE since 2004 and is often appointed as a mediator and arbitrator for complex commercial litigation cases and real estate disputes.
Mr. Aloia has served as contracted general counsel for the Road Commission of Macomb County (now the Macomb County Department of Roads) since 2002 handling right of way issues and acquisitions, including condemnation litigation. He has also worked as contracted general counsel for the Macomb County Department of Public Works since 2017, assisting in its real estate transactions and litigation. He was charged with acquiring all necessary access easements and resolving all property damage claims arising out of the 15 Mile Interceptor Collapse (a/k/a the “Fraser Sinkhole”) which has been identified as one of the largest emergencies in Macomb County history.
Since 2021, Mr. Aloia has served as contracted general counsel for Macomb Township, handling primarily municipal planning and development issues, as well as litigation for the Township. In 2022, Mr. Aloia was hired by the City of Detroit for land acquisition and condemnation for the expansion of the runway at Coleman A. Young Airport.
